The olive trees: care and territory

Olive Trees

Typical and native varieties

The olive tree has been cultivated since time immemorial in our area, and we have dedicated ourselves to enhancing the unique characteristics of each olive variety.

Here we have an area dedicated to the typical varieties of Tuscany (Frantoio, Leccino, Maurino, Moraiolo, and Pendolino), another to native varieties (Gentile di Anghiari, Morcone), and a third to experimentation and increasing biodiversity (Biancolilla, Grignan, Itrana, and Ravece).

The vitality of a young system and the peculiarity of the typical red earth of Volterena, clayey and rich in iron, contribute to creating unique oils of great personality.

Care

We take care of the plant and its environment

We cater to the needs of the olive tree and its natural physiological tendencies by giving the plant a polyconic pot structure, which ensures harmonious growth and remarkable light exposure of its internal parts, benefiting the fruits and branches.

We return part of what has been removed to the Earth by mincing the pruning waste on site, rather than burning or discarding it; a remarkable benefit for both the plants and the environment.

An Extraordinary Extra Virgin Olive Oil

The flavor of our territory

To guarantee you a unique experience, we strictly adhere to our principles:

– We start processing the olives at the mill a few hours after harvest;
– We collect each variety separately, using only perfectly healthy and ripe fruits;

olio

– We prioritize cold-press extraction mills, which, by avoiding the common use of “grinding,” produce a smaller quantity of oil but of superior quality;
– We store the oil in the bottle at a controlled temperature of 13°C until shipment.

Volterena’s philosophy

What guides our choices is respect: for the land, for the physiology of the olive trees, for biodiversity, and for the fruits that will be transformed into extraordinary olive oil.

In the logo of the Volterena farm, the characteristic red of the clover flower stands out. Its planting is one of the preferred methods for improving the physical and chemical properties of the soil, a natural approach that benefits the entire surrounding ecosystem.

That red flower perfectly symbolizes our passion for respect.
